Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has died in South Africa aged 65, the vice president of his party has said.
Mr Tsvangirai, a former prime minister, had been battling cancer before he passed away on Wednesday.
Elias Mudzuri, deputy leader of the Movement for Democratic Change party, told Reuters: “I can confirm that he died this evening. The family communicated this to me.”
Mr Tsvangirai’s career was marked by a political struggle against former President Robert Mugabe.
He had been imprisoned several times.
At the peak of his career, he served as prime minister to Mugabe’s president in a 2009-2013 unity government.
