Target to remove ‘Baby Daddy’ cards that features a black couple

Customer ire has pushed Target to remove its ‘ Baby Daddy’ greeting cards from stores ahead of Father’s Day.

Frustration with the cards first started approximately 2 weeks ago when Facebook user Takeisha Saunders posted a photo of the card.

She said: ‘You CANNOT be serious Target!!!! Really!!!?!!!!? This was the only Father’s Day card that featured a black couple!!!!!!’

Saunders had found the particular card at a Rockwall, Texas, location but comments on her post detailed how the card was housed at stores across the country.

The sand-colored card features what appears to be a couple of color and the phrase ‘baby daddy’ in maroon lettering.

The inside of the card, as noted by a user on Saunders’ post, does include the message: ‘You’re a wonderful husband and father – and I’m so grateful to have you as my partner, my friend, and my baby daddy.’

But Saunders quickly explained that the other names weren’t as prevalent as baby daddy.

‘Ran it past the hubs and he would have been upset simply because of what the term generally means in our culture. It’s not sweet or nice,’ she stated.

‘It’s a term used to describe a deadbeat or absent parent. Yeah it’s sweet on the inside but whomever created this card doesn’t know what it means. Thanks for posting the inside I didn’t read it.’

Saunders post has since gone viral, with others sharing their annoyance with the brand via other forms of social media.

We sincerely apologize to anyone this particular card has offended. Please verify the store location this was displayed so we can share your feedback.

Target doesn’t manufacture the cards and American Greetings was not available for a comment, but Saunders hope to shed light on why the card upset her.

She told Fox News: I would hope that [American Greetings] and Target’s purchasers would become more aware of the items on their shelves and how they may not have the desired impact on the targeted demographic consumers,” she said.
