Snow in London: Stunning time-lapse shows capital's skyline transformed as blizzard sweeps over city

This stunning time-lapse footage captures London’s skyline as heavy snowfall covered the city in a thick blanket of snow overnight. 

The incredible film shows the capital as the so-called Beast from the East hit, leaving white snow covering buildings and rooftops on Wednesday morning.

Filmed 127m above street level at a Novotel in Canary Wharf, the footage shows the epic storm barrelling into London and completely transforming the landscape.

The Shard, the Walkie Talkie, the Gherkin buildings are clearly visible in the footage, which shows London during the daytime before emerging overnight completely covered in the white stuff. 

The time-lapse came as Londoners faced travel chaos to get to work amid the snow and ice that wreaked havoc on the city’s transport network.

Further snow showers were expected tonight but Londoners were warned to brace themselves ahead of a storm due to hit the capital tomorrow bringing further misery and disruption.

Temperatures could plummet to minus 7C in parts of London tonight but there will be severe wind chill tomorrow as 40mph gusts blast the region when Storm Emma is predicted to bring snow blizzards, gales and sleet.
