Passengers on Airbus A320 flying from Jakarta, Indonesia to Bali were alarmed when the man lit up as people were boarding the plane at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
After security were alerted, police stormed down the aisle and demanded that the man get off the plane.
Initially the man appeared to refuse to move and allegedly asked if he would be placed on another flight to which police replied: “’we will talk about that outside.”
Police then hauled the man out of his seat and off the plane.
A Citilink spokesman Benny Butarbutar said: ‘The incident happened at approximately 9.30pm at Halim.
“The passenger got out the boarding gate and was walking towards stairs to the plane. He was seen smoking up until he got on the stairs to the plane.
“Other passengers witnessed this and reported it, so airport security officers as well as military police officers stationed at the airport immediately took action.
“This happened while the plane was re-fulling and the man was close to the engine which caused serious danger to the safety of the flight.”
