Rio Ferdinand’s girlfriend Kate Wright has paid tribute to “all the step mums” out there in a moving Mother’s Day post.
Former TOWIE star Kate took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute to her partner and his children Lorenz, 11, Tate, nine and Tia, six and said they are “living in a house full of grief.”
Kate and Rio went public with their relationship last year and the ex reality TV star has given up her showbiz life to spend more time with the former Manchester United ace and his three children.
Fans have been pleased that Rio has found happiness again after the tragedy of losing his wife Rebecca Ellison to cancer in May 2015.
Opening up to her followers Kate said: “Although I am lucky to have my mum here with me today I can’t help but feel so overwhelmed and full of emotions that both Rio and the children don’t have their mums with them today.
“We are living in a house full of grief trying to get through and days like today just feel so tough. Celebrate your mother’s and keep them close & happy Mother’s Day to all the step mums out there it’s a hard role that I don’t think anyone often gets the credit they deserve for it.
“If you aren’t being celebrated make sure u know u r doing an amazing job.”
Last summer Rio was left heartbroken when his mother Janice St Fort died after a battle with cancer.
A statement issued by Rio, his brother, former West Ham and QPR defender Anton, and the family, described Mrs St Fort as a ‘devoted mother’ and ‘an inspiration’.
“We are heartbroken to announce that our amazing mum Janice passed away today after an ongoing battle with cancer,” said the statement.
