Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was on winning form as he attended a pre-opening launch party for the latest addition to the city’s dining scene.
Pep and his fellow investors Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano were all smiles as they joined two-star Michelin chef Paco Pérez at their new Catalan restaurant Tast in King Street.
The new venture, backed by manager Pep, City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain and chief executive officer Ferran Soriano, sees Paco play his first executive chef role in the UK.
Paco, patron-chef of two Michelin two star restaurants – Miramar, in Girona and Enoteca at the Arts Hotel in Barcelona – and his team welcomed special guests including City’s assistant coaches Mikel Arteta and Brian Kidd and former player Mike Summerbee.
Also attending the launch were former chief executive of Manchester City Council Sir Howard Bernstein, the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manchester Dame Nancy Rothwell and BBC TV presenter Naga Munchetty.
VIPs were served Paco’s favourites from the menu including Ou d’Ànec, Xipirons I Salsa Tàrtara (duck egg, baby calamari, potato, tartare sauce) and Arròs de Bosc Arròs de Bosc (mushrooms, old cow sirloin, padron peppers), followed by dessert of Xuixo De Crema I Xocolata (puff pastry, custard, dark chocolate) and a Catalan cheeseboard.
Guests were also served Catalan wines to toast the arrival of Tast Cuina Catalana, which roughly translates into English as ‘Taste from the Catalan Kitchen.’
Paco said: “We are delighted to bring the Catalan cuisine to Manchester and to be part of the amazing team behind Tast.
“We are going back to our Catalan roots, with traditional cooking with an open kitchen, where you can see and smell the cooking and you can feel at home.
“Tast is an ‘easy’ restaurant where everyone is welcome.”
Sandra Martorell, director of Tast Group, said: “We Catalan people are passionate about food and tradition. With Tast we want to introduce our guests to the traditional flavours of our Catalan cuisine and wine, all in a relaxed atmosphere and with a welcoming team.”
Tast opens on King Street on Friday July 20. Bookings are now being taken on 0161 806 0547 or firstname.lastname@example.org
