‘Newlywed’ Jessica Shears has hit back at criticism over her Valentine’s Day TV wedding – to say it was fake.
Jess and her partner Dominic Lever, who live in Knutsford, sparked controversy when they appeared to get married live on Good Morning Britain – with showbiz presenter Richard Arnold as the registrar.
Brunette beauty Jess, who found love with Dom from Manchester on the dating show Love Island last year, has since taken to Twitter to say it was a jokey stunt in the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
But they ARE getting married for real in October.
She wrote: “So many people getting their knickers in a twist this morning about mine and @_DomLever Valentines Wedding on @GMB
“We had such a laugh and can’t wait for the REAL wedding now in October #learntotakeajokekid.”
And model Dom shared her tweet with the words “what a morning” alongside a crying-with-laughter face emoji and the hashtag #haterswillhate
The couple ‘wed’ live on air in matching white swimwear, and some viewers couldn’t believe what they were seeing.
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan joked: “FFS. Can I cover the live divorce when I get back in 10 days?”
Sean Conlon, singer-songwriter from the boyband Five, tweeted: “All wrong! Really wrong!” with a thumbs-down emoji.
Another viewer said: “And ITV hit a new low and god it low it’s like the low in the lowest low of lows with and extra low.”
And another GMB watcher remarked: “Car crash TV cringing.”
Dom and Jess were one of the couples who got together in the ITV reality show last year and look set to become the first Love Island couple to get married when they do tie the knot later this year.
The pair got engaged in September.
Jess, 24, spoke her vows with the words: “I, Jessica Shears, take you Dominic Lever, to be my husband.
“I will not pie you off, even if Muggy Mike comes along.
“In the presence of TV’s Richard Arnold, I make this vow.”
Dom started the ceremony with his vows: “I promise to share our life story. On social media. From this day forward, because you’re my type on paper.”
